If you went to summer camp as a kid, you know what a big impact it had on your development. Camp is the first time away from home for many kids, and while some may initially feel intimidated or homesick, bonds between campers form quickly. With counselors providing the leadership, and camp providing the fun, there’s simply no time to miss home when climbing the ropes course or riding horses for the first time! In addition to fun activities, performing skits at campfire and sleeping in the woods, camp is about camaraderie, learning to stay organized and keeping cabins tidy. All these experiences come together to help young children become young adults, making summer camp an invaluable part of growing up. Max and Marion Caldwell were two people who understood all of this more than most. The Caldwells, affectionately known as Uncle Max and Aunt Marion to thousands of Kennolyn campers, influenced the lives of children for over 60 years. Before they passed, they wanted to make sure the summer camp experience would remain available to everyone. So in 2002, they created the Max and Marion Caldwell Foundation. The following summer, the first camper attended Kennolyn Camps with the assistance of donated funds. Two decades later, the Foundation supports dozens of children across several camps annually.
